The Center provides comprehensive, free support services for women and children suffering from gender-based violence
The Peace House Shelter, part of the Center for Women and Development - Vietnam Women's Union, was officially established on March 8, 2007, in the context of the situation of domestic violence and human trafficking in Vietnam being recognized as serious. The topic is important in both nature and extent but there is no law on human trafficking prevention and domestic violence prevention; society has not really accepted the shelter model.
From the actual needs, experience of some countries in the region and the support of international organizations, the Vietnam Women's Union has allowed the implementation of the Peace House model for victims of domestic violence. The returned sales are assigned to the Center for Women and Development to manage and operate. This is a shelter for women and children experiencing gender-based violence, providing free, comprehensive and emergency support services.
Up to now, there have been 02 Peace Houses in Hanoi (01 for victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse and 01 for returning victims of trafficking); 01 Peace House for women suffering from gender-based violence in the Mekong Delta (established in 2018); 01 consultation room at the Center for Women and Development - 20 Thuy Khue, Tay Ho, Hanoi; 03 hotlines have now been upgraded to a call center to support women and children experiencing gender-based violence operating 24/7: 1900 96 96 80, along with case data management software to store and extract information for monitoring and reporting.
After 16 years of operation, Peace House has provided nearly 27,000 consultations, shelter reception and direct support at Peace House for more than 1,665 women and children suffering from gender-based violence (*data as of date November 2023) and increasingly proves its practicality and effectiveness. To meet the urgent needs of women and children experiencing violence today and meet legal regulations, Peace House needs to strengthen its legality to perfect and affirm its position.
On May 15, 2023, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Hanoi City issued Operation License No. 02/GP-SLDTBXH to the Social Assistance Center - Peaceful House under the Center for Women and Development. On May 19, 2023, the Police Department of Administrative Management of Social Affairs - Ministry of Public Security issued a Seal Sample Registration Certificate to Binh Binh House.
The center is the first unit licensed under the type of Social Assistance Center. After 16 years of piloting, activities to support women and children suffering from violence, abuse and human trafficking have been formalized. Transforming from a shelter model into a social assistance center will create favorable conditions and a legal basis to help Peace House strengthen connection and coordination in referrals and connections with other communities. functional ministries and service providers; such as police, health, justice, lawyers, psychology, social assistance, vocational training and other related organizations and experts.
